Featuring Two Mid-Century Modernist Houses!
Saturday, October 19, 7-9pm
1512 Delmont Drive, Raleigh NC
NCModernist celebrates 2024 with a special doubleheader evening in two of North Carolina's celebrated mid-century Modernist houses with lively music, delicious food, and curated drinks! Proceeds benefit NCModernist's mission of documenting, preserving, and promoting residential Modernist architecture across the state.
You'll discover the beautifully restored 1967 James and Betty Bost House in West Raleigh. Designed and built by James Bost, who worked in the shop at the NCSU School of Design during the 1960's through the 1990's. Photos by Art Howard. Never before open for public tour, you'll meet the current owners, Melinda and Andy Knowles, who also own this famous recently-moved George Matsumoto house next door:
You'll be among the first to visit the newly-relocated 1954 Bill and Marcia Weber House (next door) moved seven miles by the Knowles in January 2024 from Transylvania Avenue. George Matsumoto designed the house with owner, architect Bill Weber who was a partner in one of Raleigh's most prolific firms, Holloway Weber and Reeves. The house was featured in Architectural Record in 1954 and for a time was a Raleigh Historical Landmark. Still a work in progress, you can sip a martini while strolling through this heroic preservation project by the Knowles. Video.
Special Guest: Victoria Bell, author of Triangle Modern Architecture, who will be signing books available for sale.
Special Musical Guests: Raleigh's hottest jazz band Peter Lamb and the Wolves!
